Second half of Week 2 with Rebecca*2

The day after returning from Kraków was a Sunday, and that afternoon we attended the open air Chopin piano concert at the Royal Łazienki Park.  This is a free public event that takes place each Sunday from May through September….and on this day we were happy that the predicted rain did not occur.
The piano music was beautiful….sitting down and listening to Chopin music outside for almost an hour was enriching!

On Monday, we decided to make cinnamon rolls using the recipe that Caroline had used when she came to visit. We were successful…using all Polish ingredients except for the yeast! Thanks to Jamie and Caroline for bringing yeast on one of their visits here.

Becca was a great help as we measured, mixed and worked together.  After the dough had successfully risen we rolled it out.
We spread the butter, cinnamon, and sugar on the dough, and added pecan pieces at Mark's request.  Then we carefully rolled up the dough….
…and cut it into pieces.  Then we patiently waited for the little rolls to rise...
We made a great team….and our sweet rolls were a success !
Simply delicious!

On the next couple of days, Rebecca and Becca were successful in exploring Warsaw on their own when I had other engagements.

On Tuesday the Rebeccas decided to visit the Chopin Museum while I was in my Polish class.  I first took them to the Church of the Holy Cross on the street Krakowskie Przedmiescie….
….where the heart of Chopin is sealed in a pillar in the church….something we have seen a few times in Europe.

Chopin is often referred to the "Poet of the Piano" and at the Chopin Museum one can learn much about this masterful artist.
Young Chopin was born into a family that was not well off, but they did have an appreciation for music. His first public concert was at age 7 and he was famous across Europe at 15.  He preferred to give intimate concerts in small parlors like in the picture below.
The Chopin Museum is a modern facility filled with information and artifacts from his life. Rebecca and Becca had a good visit.
After my lesson, I took Rebecca and Becca to one of our favorite restaurants across from the Cultural Palace….Trattoria Casa Mia…an Italian restaurant where the food is most delicious!
Our food was great….

….and we enjoyed Tuesday afternoon together.

I took Rebecca to another Polish pottery shop located very close to the restaurant.  Rebecca had a birthday approaching the following week….and she found pottery pieces to take home for herself and to share with others as well.
Happy birthday Rebecca….Polish pottery always makes great birthday gifts!
Prior to going home we stopped at the Grycan shop…for lody!
The Rebeccas continued to love lody here in Warsaw and I must say…I enjoy it too!

As we walked home, we crossed through the park near our home. We found the family of swans….how the babies have grown!  Mark had shown us these swans just a few days after Rebecca and Becca arrived.  During R&R's four-week visit, it was always fun to see the swan family.
The Ugly Duckling in Warsaw….one of four little cygnets.
It has been fun to watch these swans over the weeks….they grow so quickly, yet stay together as a family.

Rebecca and Becca became real tourists as they explored…on their own….The Royal Palace, Old Town and the surrounding areas….while I served at the Family History Center one afternoon.
They did a  great job on their own…and I was so pleased to hear about all that they saw, where they walked and what they ate…all on their own in Warsaw!

They saw beautiful rooms inside the Royal Palace…a bedroom….
….and the King's throne.
They saw beautiful wooden patterned floors….
….and they even found someone to take their picture together!
They purchased their first "gofrey"….a Belgian waffle with fruit, whipped cream and chocolate!
They arrived back to our home just shortly before I returned... it was so good to hear they had a successful day.

We ended our day making berry muffins….raspberry, blackberry and blueberry.
Becca was there to help me again….she is a great help and wonderful baker!
The second week with our family was wonderful….we traveled to another Polish city, explored the streets of Warsaw both together and on their own, and enjoyed activities at home.

It has been an absolute treat having both my sister Rebecca and my niece Becca visiting. I think they are enjoying their visit as well….I'm so happy they are with us!
