Winter?…Wait...It's only October!

Our first snow of the season came on the last Saturday in October…the 27th. I wasn't sure if I was ready for winter yet.

We had read that snow was predicted for the weekend….and we noticed the snow coming down early Saturday.  This was a surprise (though predicted) because even the Polish people said snow rarely comes this early in the season.
We took pictures soon after it started snowing, thinking it might stop soon.…but to our big surprise it snowed ALL day!

Our backyard was soon transformed into a winter white carpet...

Now we have to be extra careful on slippery steps and walkways once again!

This is a small park beside our home.  By the next day there were snowmen built and sledders sliding down this popular hill.
This is the same park exactly one week earlier.  The previous Saturday we had been walking up the stairs on the hill and noticed the beautiful Fall view.

Our activity for the day was to visit one of Mark's co-workers who just three weeks ago had her first baby…a baby boy.
Did I remember how many layers I needed in order to stay somewhat dry and warm?

Mark asked if I wanted to drive but I kindly said "no thanks"!

We were bringing gifts from Mark's office team…and then to visit and see the new baby.

It was wonderful to see Agnieszka and her husband Marcin, and new little son Karol.  New parents are always fun to watch…and this was the first Polish newborn baby I have ever seen...
….or had the opportunity to hold!
We brought gifts, a meal for Agnieszka and her husband….and they even served us a meal…just so hospitable and gracious are the Polish people! We had a lovely visit for over 3 hours. We started to leave twice but were asked to please stay…they told us we were the first visitors outside of their families who had come to visit and see the baby.

We came home to this wintry blue scene….our backyard really did look this color! It is getting darker  much earlier, and this weekend we also changed our clocks back one hour. It will soon be getting dark by 4pm!

The snow had started at 8am…and at midnight it was still snowing!

By Sunday morning the snow finally stopped. Our back yard looked as if someone sprayed an enormous amount of foam or whipping cream across our yard, trees and bushes.  So much snow in such a short amount of time!
I guess winter is really here….so goodbye to our short fall days….and welcome to many wintry white days in Warsaw!
