Austria in August ...Day 3

Our 3rd day in Austria would be exploring Vienna on a "Hop On-Hop Off" tour and attending a Mozart concert at the Vienna State Opera House in the evening.

This is the State Opera House that we would return to in the evening for the Mozart concert. Conveniently for us...our hop on/hop off tour began right in front of this same concert hall.
Traveling through the streets of Vienna...

This is a beautiful municipal court building
The Rathause in the distance...and the entrance to the film festival area where we came on our first full day in Vienna.

A beautiful church...St. Stephens cathedral from a distance...

Notice the little McDonald's sign in the corner block below.
In the Prater district is an amusement park that is very popular. The ferris wheel is a popular landmark in the park as well as in all of Vienna. It is considered one of the oldest and largest ferris wheels.

A view of the Danube river ...
modern towers....
and even another very old and beautiful church.
As we took a break for another Austrian lunch...I noticed the trees were changing colors here on the streets of Vienna...
Across from where we ate lunch, there is a park with a statue of Mozart.
Mozart is to Austria what Chopin is to Poland. I have a much greater appreciation for Mozart and his creative genius after our visit to this beautiful country.
A picture of a drinking fountain? Why? It is the very first public drinking fountain Mark and I have ever seen in Europe!
A quaint side street we passed in Vienna...
Walking down a few streets in the old city center area...
We saw more beautiful window displays...just like in Salzburg...but this time the windows were filled with sweets!
Beautiful and fun cakes...
candies and sweet treats...
We found this interesting display as we approached a corner. We think it is a replica of what the down town area of Vienna used to look like with a fortress of walls around the city.
We went down into a staircase...and saw original stone sections to the city wall. We wish there had been a sign telling the age of the stone wall. Interesting how the Vienna workers just built the Metro stop around it.
We attended the State Opera House in the evening...I had found our seats early and was able to get a quick picture before it was full of spectators like us.
The State Opera House is one of three main venues where music concerts are performed in Vienna.
Singers, soloists, all in historical costumes and wigs performed an array of Mozart pieces.
We both had a greater appreciation for the works of Mozart, Strauss and other composers after visiting this beautiful venue and great concert.
I loved when I recognized the musical pieces...though not always knowing the title of the piece...I enjoyed them just the same.
Soloists singing operatic pieces...

I loved when they played the The Blue Danube Waltz and The Radetzky March!
I just smiled as I heard these pieces being performed!

It was a lovely concert...and afterwards...we  enjoyed eating a delicious frozen yogurt dessert just across the street from the beautiful music hall.
We enjoyed Day 3 in Austria!
