Mark had a business trip this past week in Iława, Poland....and lucky me....I tagged along! Of course I was invited first...and enjoyed the little get-away!
Leaving Warsaw, we passed the Vistula River and the new Stadion Nardowy (national stadium).
We traveled by train and rode for 4 hours north-east of Warsaw.
We saw beautiful summertime farmland....
a lot of green fields...
and a lot of wheat fields....
We had an entire compartment to ourselves....loved it!
We soon arrived to Iława (pronounced Ee-wah'-vah) and departed the train...the town was much bigger than we had imagined.
We noticed a lot of people getting off the train at the same time that we did...and we wondered what would all of these people be doing in Iława?
The taxi took us a short 10 minute drive away from the train station to the Stary Tartak Hotel. It sits on the Jeziorak Lake and it was a lovely site to see. This lake is the longest lake in Poland and 6th in size.
Our view outside our room....simply lovely!
We took a number of walks around part of the lake and this picture is one view across from our hotel.
Mark's event wasn't until Tuesday...so we spent Monday outdoors...biking, walking, and eating.
We rode bikes that the hotel provided and they did a decent job of getting us around. The building above is a government park office, and its roof is made of dirt and grass growing in the dirt.
We had no idea where we were going...but we found these maps quite helpful (though all in Polish).
Our goal was to go around the lake...but there were not bike paths all around. We rode for almost 2 hours...and enjoyed the cool breezes, sunshine...and of course the beautiful lake.
Many families come to the lake...to boat, swim and enjoy being in the sun together! It was fun to see families out enjoying the water...as we don't see this in Warsaw.
We rode past a row of sunflowers...these were taller than me!
We would enjoy returning here again one day...
We returned to Warsaw by car with some of Mark's co-workers. Thanks to the good eyes of our driver, he twice pointed out...nesting storks!
25% of all storks nest in Poland. They arrive in March/April...stay through part of the summer...and then migrate back to Africa during August and September.
This is something I have never seen in the states so it was fun to see these birds relatively close up.
The drive home was relaxing...We were home just one day...and then we are off to the Baltic Sea tomorrow!
