It's Valentine's Day in Poland!
Szczęśliwego Walentynki
(A Happy Valentine's Day)
Mark surprised me with light pink tulips last night! I absolutely love tulips...and yesterday was not one of my best days...so the tulips came at a perfect time!
I was quite surprised because Mark was with me a good part of the day and I never even saw him purchasing them!... How does that happen?
I had read online that Valentine's Day is not a big deal here in Poland.
Children do not exchange valentines in their school classes,
Valentine cards have been a challenge to find and
this day has only been celebrated here since the end of communism..for about the past 20 years.
...But today I came to find out
that they do indeed celebrate Valentine's Day in Poland...
as I entered the mall next to Mark's office I saw splashes of red in
a number of places...
Mark and I do celebrate Valentine's Day...so we met up in the afternoon.
Mark often doesn't get home until 7-8pm so we planned a Valentine's lunch date at a French Bistro in the mall...it was a most delicious meal and I'm so glad we could have an hour together!
A co-worker of Mark's also saw and joined us for lunch...so we enjoyed more company and good conversations.
Mark had a busy afternoon scheduled...so I went exploring ...
As I was leaving the mall...I saw signs of Valentines' Day gifts...
candies and flowers being the most popular.
A co-worker of Mark's shared that the Polish people do indeed celebrate Valentine's Day...
just not quite as much as in the US...
as Valentine's gifts for sale seem to appear just a few days before the special day.
Another co-worker of Mark's told us about a Polish pottery outlet store nearby so I thought I would take a tram ride and try to find it...After some walking through construction areas and without my map...I found the shop!
I decided to treat myself to a piece of pottery on this Valentine's Day.
I wanted something to remind me of this time of year...Mark being here
a year and it being Valentine's Day!
I found a heart shaped small serving piece that is simply lovely!
Szczęśliwego Walentznki 2012!
